Refund policy

Fourteen days, no reason needed, on a first subscription period — and what happens with annual plans, accidental renewals and chargebacks.

Updated

This is a policy we will honour, which is why it is short and specific rather than a page of conditions that all point at “no”.

“No refunds” is not actually available to a business taking card payments. Stripe will side with the cardholder on a dispute more often than not, a chargeback costs a fee on top of the refund, and enough of them puts the merchant account at risk. So the choice is not between refunding and not refunding — it is between refunding on our terms or on someone else’s.

The policy

Fourteen days from the charge, no reason needed, refunded in full. That covers your first subscription period, monthly or annual.

Ask by email. You will not be asked why, sent a survey, or offered a discount to stay.

After the first fourteen days

Monthly. Cancel and the current month runs out — there is nothing meaningful left to refund at $6. If the software has been broken for you and we could not fix it, say so and we will refund the month anyway.

Annual. If Dispatch stops working for you and we cannot fix it in reasonable time, we refund the unused whole months of your term. Nine months in on a $60 year, you get three months back.

Lifetime. The fourteen days above apply in full, and after that there is no pro-rata to calculate — a licence with no end date has no unused portion. So the position is deliberately simple rather than generous-sounding: inside 14 days, a full refund and the licence is revoked. After that, no refund. If a refund is issued the seat goes back into the 250 available, which is the one respect in which this differs from cancelling a subscription.

Say the obvious thing about that: fourteen days is a short window in which to judge something you are buying for good. It is also why the 14-day trial exists and why it needs no card — take the trial first, and the decision is made before any money moves.

Renewals you did not mean to pay for

If a renewal charge takes you by surprise, ask within 14 days of it and you get it back in full — provided you had not started using the new period.

We do not make you prove that. Every licence records when it last checked in, so we can see whether the software was launched after the renewal date, and we use our own record rather than asking you to account for your week. If the record is ambiguous, you get the refund.

What is not refunded

One thing: a key revoked for a breach of Acceptable use — sharing a key, reselling access, or attacking the licence server. That is the whole list.

If we revoke a key for any other reason, including a mistake of ours or a decision to stop selling the product, you get the unused part of your term back without asking.

A lifetime licence has no term, so “the unused part” does not compute for it and the sentence above cannot quietly be stretched to cover it. What is true: we would not revoke one except for the breach above. What is not yet decided is what a lifetime holder is owed if the product is wound down — the same open question as on Subscription and cancellation, and it should be answered there before this tier goes on sale rather than improvised here afterwards.

How a refund actually happens

  1. You write to us. TODOthe support address — set LEGAL.contact.support in src/lib/site.ts
  2. We refund through Stripe to the original payment method. There is no other route — we cannot pay you by bank transfer, because we never see your bank details.
  3. Stripe sends it back the way it came. Card networks typically take 5–10 working days to show it, and that part is out of everyone’s hands.
  4. The subscription is cancelled and the licence key stops working. A refund and a working key are not a combination we offer, and the licence gate enforces it rather than trusting the honour system.

We aim to answer within two working days and to raise the refund the same day we agree it.

Before you raise a chargeback

Please just ask us. A refund we make ourselves reaches you faster than a dispute, costs us a fee less, and does not put a mark on the merchant account this business runs on.

If you do raise one, we do not fight it — but the key is revoked when the dispute is filed rather than when it resolves, because at that point the money is not with us either way.

Your statutory rights

Nothing here reduces them. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, you also have a 14-day right of withdrawal, how it interacts with a key issued immediately is set out under Subscription terms, and this policy is written to give you the same window regardless of how that turns out.
